What do you see on the card?

A crowned figure in a red robe sits between two grey pillars, a purple veil hanging behind. The right hand holds a sword pointing straight up; the left holds golden scales. The gaze is direct and calm — nothing softened, nothing exaggerated.

  • The scales — balance, and the weighing of your actions.
  • The upraised sword — clear thinking and the courage to speak the truth.
  • The crown — the authority of law and order.
  • The two pillars — the fair middle way between opposites.
  • The purple veil — what is hidden still counts.

The story of the card

The Wanderer sets out again, and the road leads to the ruins of an old temple. A woman sits there, holding a shining pair of golden scales, a sword at her side. She looks at him calmly, as if she sees everything.

The Wanderer stops and thinks about what he has brought with him and what he must leave behind. In one pan of the scales lies the past, in the other the future. Between them stands the present — and the present is the decision.

He realizes that every action has consequences, but every choice also brings a new chance. The sword stands for clarity: speaking the truth — to yourself first.

The Wanderer lifts his head, gives thanks for the lesson, and walks on with a lighter heart.

Real justice begins when you are honest with yourself.

UprightJustice Meaning

Truth, balance, responsibility. When Justice appears upright, a decision or a matter will be settled fairly — and it is also your responsibility to see the situation clearly.

Waite gives the card "equity, rightness, probity" and the "triumph of the deserving side in law"; it can point to a legal matter, a contract or an official decision. The card's message: every action has consequences, but every choice brings a new chance.

ReversedJustice Reversed

Reversed, Justice can point to unfairness or bias — a situation where not everyone gets a clear picture. Waite lists legal complications, bias and excessive severity.

It can also show responsibility being shifted onto others, or a lack of honesty with yourself. The question: where are you not telling the truth — to yourself?

Justice in Love, Work and Life

Love

Honesty, a balanced give and take, a conversation that clears the air. Reversed: a one-sided relationship, unfairness, grievances left unspoken.

Work & money

A contract, a legal matter, a fair agreement — a favorable outcome if you have acted cleanly. Reversed: dispute, a biased decision, bureaucratic obstacles.

Spiritual path

After the turn of the Wheel of Fortune, Justice teaches responsibility: real justice begins when you are honest with yourself.
